Given that the outputs of the cascaded funded projects are expected to have some market impact but must also be research focused, is it realistic that these small projects with one partner only can achieve both impact and also research output?

    Dear eelahi,

as you might have understood during the webinar last week, the EC does not expect just single entities to apply. The proposals will define the conditions for the allocation of the cascading funds. Projects from small groups of individuals innovating in the field are preferred.

Second: the EC is looking for technologic developments which require longer research cycles, so we do not necessary need short term investments which can be covered with different forms of funding. The Work Programme does not require impact of individual project but of a combination of them. Small is beautiful as far as interoperability and integration is adressed. Intermediaries should be the “translators” of the developments funded via the cascading grants so that they align with the general framework of the NGI programme. The EC also does not exclude competitive research, it simply has to be appropriately managed and they rely on intermediaries for this.

Last but not least, the EC funded a number of new CSAs, one in charge of the outreach, one of the strategy and a third one in charge of the harvesting of the results of NGI projects: the latter will be looking at the most powerful selected projects and will help them have visibility and impact in a second phase.

Hope this may help! The recording of the webinar is available here https://www.ngi.eu/event/info-session-on-ict-24-service-and-data-portabi...

Should proposal take into account Regulation on the Free Flow of Non-personal Data that was published in the Official Journal of the European Union? Regulation will enter into force on 18 December 2018, it will start to apply on 29 May 2019.
